What You Need When You Apply for College

By Amanda Woidyla

What information will you want at your fingertips when you apply for college? In addition to name, address and other personal information, you’ll need to share your cumulative GPA, ACT or SAT scores, Social Security number, your grades on college courses you’ve already completed and the school you attended, volunteer hours, extracurricular interests and the major you are interested in.

All colleges have different application deadlines, and they will be listed on the website. Some have early admission deadlines. If there are limits to its programs or school numbers, you’ll want to apply early for them. Other colleges have what is called rolling admission dates when there is a wide window in which you can apply. These accept or rejects applicants as they are submitted.

You can complete applications online, and there is often a fee to complete the application. In North Dakota, Bank of North Dakota pays the fee for one college registration to a North Dakota school when your school hosts its College Application Month event in October of your senior year.
