The North Dakota State Grant, also referred to as North Dakota State Student Incentive Grant, is for eligible North Dakota residents who are attending an in-state higher education institution with an approved program that takes at least two years to complete. Qualifying institutions include state-accredited public, tribal and private schools. You need to be enrolled at least quarter-time and attending college for the first time.
This is a need-based grant. This means you can only receive it if you have a financial need along with meeting the other criteria. Since funding is limited, early application is recommended. You apply annually by completing your FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1 for the following school year. Your FAFSA information will determine if you have a financial need.
You can receive up to $1,100 per semester or $733 per quarter, based on the number of credits you take. Since this is a grant, it does not need to be repaid.
To qualify, you must have graduated from a high school or be home-educated in North Dakota. Additionally, you could have received a GED from the ND Superintendent of Public Instruction. You may also qualify if you graduate from a high school in a bordering state as defined by ND Century Code 15.1-29. If you must enroll in an out-of-state school because of a medical disability, you may also qualify for the North Dakota State Grant.
